the Baloot Tragedy

Multimedia Textile Installation

2022

This project honors the endangered oak forests of the Zagros Mountains in Iran, increasingly threatened by deforestation and wildfires—often caused by human activity. Oak acorns and leaves were gathered and used to naturally dye yarn, which was then woven into textiles employing patterns rooted in traditional Zagros weaving practices. As a symbolic gesture, the final textile was installed on Gamle Mester, a centuries-old oak tree, during an AIR Green artist residency in Norway—bridging distant landscapes and ecological concerns.
